Blimey, it's been a bit of week here on Jersey. Woke up on Monday morning, pulled the curtains and thought:

"Hello.... white stuff.... that's going to be chaos then!"

Sure enough, airport closed, ferries cancelled, schools shut. YAAY Snow Day

Trouble with our little island is that even a small amount of snow grinds everything to a halt. We're not used to it, don't have snow ploughs, and limited access to salt and grit. Added to that is that fact that the island is covered with a network of very small lanes and some short but suprisingly steep hills (think Tirreno-Adriatico). So, even if the main roads are gritted, you can't travel very far if you don't live on main road.

However, we didn't just get a smattering of snow; we got huge amounts of it accompanied by gale force winds. So much snow in fact, that we made the main BBC news, the airport has only just reopened, and we are on Snow Day 3 and counting. Son and I went for a walk along the lanes yesterday, they were blocked with amazing wind sculpted drifts... it was fantastic. I only live over the road from where I work so have been working this week, son has enjoyed himself sledging snowdrifts, but poor old Dad has been stuck at a hotel in Gatwick trying to get home after a trip to Taiwan - he's not a happy bunny :(

I think our Snow Days are coming to an end though. The sun is out, and you can hear the steady drip, drip, drip, as the snow turns to slush. It's been fun while it lasted though.

The other important news in our house this week (well for me anyway), is that I have subscribed to Eurosport UK. I can now watch all the cycling on the computer or the ipad, I am a very happy bunny:D Also, Dave Harmon and Sean Kelly, where have you been all my life???

I woke up on Monday to a bit of snow, but it melted throughout the day despite the snow showers and was mostly gone except for 1 spot on my way home where it was blowing off the field, it was Tuesday that was worst!

Driving to work was fun - took twice as long as normal cause you didn't dare go very fast (except lorries who are idiots and its no surprise they were jackknifing the way they do it), and had to stay in the tracks of other cars (and these were main roads!)

Snow days are fun - but we rarely get them unfortunately, you have to find another way to get everywhere.

Thankfully we get Eurosport through out Sky subscription, (don't get Eurosport player which is a shame, but its ok when I'm at home) They are pretty good commentators I have to admit! Although ITV have highlights of Criterium, Paris-Roubaix and Liege - which is kinda awesome as they normally only have the Tour, Tour of Britain and for the last couple of years the Vuelta! It appears Eurosport are letting other channels do highlights (cause Sky's Tirreno highlights were better than Eurosport!)

Yeah, ours started on Monday and just carried on until Tuesday afternoon. I had to make an early morning dash to the shops on Mon morning which was a bit disconcerting! Not too many heavy lorries over here, and no dual carriageways, but lots on single track lanes and 4 wheel drive cars! Racked my brains to think of a route to a shop that didn't involve hills, made it OK but the journey home through a white out was a bit 'brown trousers'.

ITV have races other than the GTs? Didn't know that, is it ITV4?

We had some Saturday night - we've just been lucky its been melting fairly quickly but the mornings were treacherous. And one stretch of road the rest of the time where I could feel the car slipping, it wasn't helped by the fact the wind was blowing across the field along with the snow!

They don't always - it used to just be the Tour, but the last couple of years they introduced the Vuelta (they don't have the Giro). Well they did the Tour of Britain last year (along with the Halford series and Revolution). But I got a tweet today about the extra races - I presume ITV4 as that seems to be their sports channel!

It's a bit scary when the car starts slipping and sliding. I'm always reminded of Toy Story 2 "Steer into the spin Barbie!"

I shall look out for that then.

Oh yeah, but you nearly always forget the rule!

Oh yeah, me to (but I'm bound to forget having watched Eurosport, or be watching something else!)

I don't care what anyone says, David Harmon and Sean Kelly are the only cycling commentators for me (outside of worlds, which weirdly I prefer to watch on the BBC)

I'm really enjoying them. I would like David Harmon to read me bedtime stories; such a soothing voice.

I like Hugh Porter for track cycling, but the BBC are making him retire, nooooo

There was this really great moment during the Vuelta in 2009 (I think) when thet were going to cut away before the podium, but microphones were still totally on and everyone heard David Harmon swear. Oh, good times

This makes me so sad, too :(

Yaay - Random Matti, I have matched it.

LOL There surely must be video / audio evidence of this, I shall have to look.

I know just think no Hugh to shout out 'come on Trottie' or to call home 'Sir Chris Hoy' in the sprint or keirin. Wait, no more Sir Chris Hoy either... thjis makes me even more sad.

That's the only other Matti icon I have :S

I'm pretty sure there must be somewhere

Nope. Chris is totes still riding- he just took some time off after the Olympics and he's not even properly retiring until after the Commonwealth Games what with them being in Glasgow and them riding in the Chris Hoy Velodrome. Or he better not retire until them because I'm not ready to lose him yet and I don't think anyone else is either. But I will be sad when that does happen and I am still so sad about Hugh Porter

But that is a lovely icon, especially at it features the lips ( yep still taken with them). Besides which, I only have one Matti pic, because I can not bear to delete any of the Bernie ones I have.

Sorry, I didn't mean right away for Chris ; I was thinking about Rio 2016, when we will have to face up to no Sir Chris and no Hugh. Will be strange, but def Chris Hoy till the C Games.

Oh, yeah- I have some Bernie icons too

I'm so not looking forward to the Olympics without Chris :( Though Jase seems like he's more than capable of taking over

And they are very nice, never enough Bernie IMHO.

We will get through it somehow, depends who's going to replace Hugh... Just had another thought, I think the Keirin motorbike retired this year too. It's the end of an era; but the start of a new and exciting one (go Jason and Simon Yates)

I'm not going to think about Jason , last time we had this conversation I wrote fic. Wait though, look I have a glass of wine and PICCIES of Matti and Jakob to look at. Could this be fic no 3? Hmm where did I put my new purple pen?...

It's so hard saying goodby to so many people. I'm still not over losing George either, tbh

You know I'll support you writing more fic

It's a universal truth.

And there's another. But you know, as long as we still have memories (IRL or fic), we never have to say goodbye. That's my line and I'm sticking to it. Oh honey, I didn't mean to remind you of George, I am sending the HTC boys along to cheer you up. They a little out of hand, but I have given them strict instructions.

I'm not promising anything, but the purple pen has been used in anger :)

Memories, fic and DVD copies of then being awesome :Po
I think the HTC boys might be more trouble than they're worth- they're certainly acting like it in fic (though this is in their post-HTC days)

Oh that sounds delightful

Yes to all those things
HTC boys.... BEHAVE RIGHT NOW, or I'm sending Jens round and he won't be happy.

They need to cause trouble though- it's sort of the whole basis of the story, but they've finally decided to eventually start to work things out when they didn't seem to want to before
